Old Market plans to cheer up Hereford residents on Blue Monday (21st January) by dishing out different treats, such as free coffees, flowers and vouchers to shoppers.

On Monday morning, ‘centre concierges’ will be stationed at Old Market to spread some joy on what’s often dubbed as the most depressing day of the year – after New Year’s resolutions have been broken and before January’s much-needed payday.

The concierge team will be carrying out random acts of kindness, including helping people carry their bags, giving out compliments and gifting bouquets of flowers, chocolates and shopping vouchers.

The centre will also be offering 50 free coffees, topped with a special smiley face design, from My Coffee Corner from 10am.

Alan Anderson, centre director at Old Market, said: “We wanted to lift our shoppers’ spirits on the most miserable day of the year, which is why we’re renaming the third Monday in January ‘Brew Monday’.

“Hereford residents should head over early to pick up a bargain in the January sales – and also a few freebies!

“We just hope that the friendly concierge team and the free smiley face coffees will help to put a smile on peoples’ faces.”

The 50 free coffees will be given out by My Coffee Corner, near TK Maxx, on a first come, first served basis with only one available per person.
