We have been made aware of an incident that occurred last night in the Leominster area.

A 90 year old gentleman received a visitor who said she was from the police, and that they were registering people on a scheme where police would apply for help and benefits on their behalf.

He became suspicious when she asked for his bank details “in order to make any payments direct to his account”. He noticed a car pull up outside his house so told the woman that his friend who “is also a police officer” had arrived – she left very quickly.

Police advice is to ALWAYS check caller ID before opening the door, and if you are in any doubt as to who they are call 101.
