Eleven people have received cautions for their part in the disorder which overshadowed the Merthyr Town fixture versus Hereford on Boxing Day.

Clashes between both sets of fans occurred both inside and outside the ground, and also in a nearby public house.

Seven men from Hereford were cautioned and one man was reported for summons. Three men from Merthyr Tydfil were ordered onto the divert scheme and another man was fined for public order.

South Wales Police and West Mercia Police launched a joint investigation to identify who was responsible and they scoured CCTV to single out those involved.

PC Christian Evans, said: “It was a big match for the town of Merthyr Tydfil and it was very nearly spoiled by these individuals. Violence and public order of any kind won’t be tolerated in places which should be enjoyed by the whole family. These individuals are on our radar and will be dealt with robustly should they offend again.

Banning orders were unfortunately not an option to us this time because of the lower league status of the match. I’d like to thank all those who assisted our investigation.”
